What would Fabulously Small be without a Christmas-scene? Well..., still Fabulously Small of course 😁, but I couldn't help myself and enjoyed doing a little Christmas-shoot again, and this is my 2024 'entry' I guess ;).
Aside from a few new items (the sign and the cake), nothing newly made but I really like how it turned out. Oh, I díd make the
oversized plastic bag for the Christmas cake and its oversized box, but that is nothing to mention and just a quick 'wrap-around' almost, with holes I cut as handles. Trust me, a bag not even the worst bag-company would sign off on, lol 😛, but it looks fine like this (I think). And in my defense: the very thin and flimsy plastic that made the cut as the right thickness for a realistic bag was impossible to work with :).
Technically, I also 'made' a Christmas wreath, meaning I glued the ends of a piece of Christmassy-berry-type garland to form the wreath and hung it to the store entrance with some gold decoration stuff on a pin:
Aannnnd, I almost forgot: I used straws to form a drain pipe with a slightly thicker straw as 'sleeves' and painted it black as you can see best on the left picture below. It was very much needed to cover up the (ugly and way too obvious) seam between the scrapbook brick papers :).
Don't judge 😊, or do, haha, but all I have been doing miniature-wise was for another scene I really wanted to wrap up and therefore wasn't focused on Christmas this year. This post is really just a little end-of-the-year-bonus I guess and these the necessities I realized I needed/wanted to make last minute for it 🎄🎅.
I made an additional photo to show the back of the sign and here you can see the hinge too:
I also 'made' the soil (coffee mixed with tacky glue) for the Christmas tree and halved and hollowed a piece of licorice-stick (one of my 'logs' for a 'fire' still to create) for a stem. The tree usually just goes in some green flower-foam in its basket, but I figured it should look like a living tree; and I'm not a biologist, but I happen to know real-life trees do nót have a green wire stem covered in green flower foam residue, not even exotic ones 😁.
Butttt.... Blondie here didn't pay attention and I realized only well after the shoot the crate is in front of it so you don't even see the bottom, so it wouldn't have mattered, jeezzz!
Let me show you, just b/c I have it anyway:
The backdrop for this scene is part of a miniature-scene I've been recently focused on and thought I'd have been able to finish by now, but too much got in the way and delayed it quite a bit. I hope to be able to post it soon. A little teaser:
And it does make a fabulous outdoor shopping-area scene to which I added my Christmas tree. Although it's not very visible in this shoot, it still annoys me the lights at the top that were impossible to get better fitted and the the wires painfully visible, sigh... 😇. But that's when a(n unintentionally) blurry photo comes in perfectly:
an out-of-focus-photo I find surprisingly satisfying. Maybe it's the lights :) |
As it's winter here in the northern hemisphere, it's getting dark early and it looks like it's after closing time. But fortunately the lights are still on in the other building that allows us to see the beautiful Christmas sign in the window (you may remember it from last year, it's from Etsy by IGMA Artisan MinniFanaberia. She doesn't sell the sign anymore, but has a wide range of other great items).
➯ in reality it was still light and just seconds after the other photos and the light from the window just daylight. It's because I focused my camera focus-point on the sign, and the bright light behind and around it made the rest go dark giving the impression of it being dark and I like it!
Btw: for anyone who would like a realistic ánd very affordable miniature Christmas tree, in an older post with that tree I noticed a link from years ago to the miniature webshop I got it from, Silly Sisters. I clicked on it fully expecting it wouldn't be working and possibly the webshop gone altogether, but guess what? They are not just still up and running, even the tree-kit is still available!
In case you like to get one, you can find it HERE. They come in 3 sizes, this one (12,5cm / 5inches), one smaller and one bigger and are kits with lycopodium. This is a type of plant, an evergreen, which makes it a very natural tree that stays green but its color does fade over time. That's why mine isn't as vibrant as it used to be after 13 years (!) :D. It does take a while to assemble, but I guess that makes it quite a meditative activity 😉
I wish everyone who celebrates it (or just likes Christmas) a very
